Córdoba, Colombia — Heavy seasonal rains have caused widespread flooding in the northern Colombian department of Córdoba, devastating farmland, infrastructure, and communities. According to the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), the flooding has affected more than 113,000 hectares of land in the region — more than 1,130 square kilometers — as of early February 2026.

The flooding comes after intense rainfall and high river levels — particularly along the Sinú River, which overflowed its banks — triggered widespread waterlogging across urban and rural areas. In total across the Caribbean region of Colombia (which includes Córdoba and several neighboring departments), more than 236,000 hectares of land have been identified as inundated.
This flooding has destroyed crops, submerged pastures and fields, and disrupted transportation and local economies. In some areas, livestock losses are significant, and key roads remain impassable due to standing water.

While official death tolls vary between sources, flooding has displaced thousands of families in Córdoba and left many communities isolated. Local news reports link dozens of deaths and extensive property losses directly to the rising waters.
